Whilst most business people have heard of outsourcing, or had some exposure to it, there are still a lot of misconceptions and misinformation about how outsourcing works, it's benefits to Australian businesses, and the ease of which it can be implemented.

Despite the various success stories of outsourcing to the Philippines, often people tend to focus on hearsays about building offshore teams rather than seeing them for what they are – myths!

Outsourcing is only for big business

Whilst it is true that some of the largest businesses in the world engage outsourced teams, there are many Australian small and medium businesses reaping the benefits of partnering with an Australian BPO company.

It is difficult to setup an offshore team

Outsourcing is only for reducing costs

Yes, outsourcing does provide a significant cost benefit versus onshore hiring. Cost savings are role dependant, but it is not unusual to see savings in the vicinity of 70%. With that said, cost reduction is no longer at the forefront of outsourcing decisions for Australian SME.

There are a number of different reasons and benefits (aside from reducing the cost of onshore hiring) why businesses are choosing to partner with an Australian outsourcing company.

The Philippines began first offering outsourcing services in the early 1990's. By 2010, the Philippines was known as the capital of the world's business process outsourcing. More than 1.2 million Filipinos are employed by BPO companies across just about every function you can think of.

Filipinos have exceptional English language skills. The English language was introduced into the Philippines in the early 1900's and English is now recognised as an official second language of the Philippines. In addition, the accent of Filipinos is not as strong as that of many other outsourcing destinations in Asia, such as India.

Filipino's are very well educated; tertiary education is both popular and prevalent in the Philippines with 1.6 million Filipinos expected to graduate from higher education in 2022.

The quality of work produced by outsourced teams in the Philippines is high, from call centre and customer facing support, accounting and finance teams, and creative and development.

The standard of both tertiary education and English language in the Philippines is strong; outsourced teams produce high quality work on par with Australia

I will lose oversight with an offshore team
